How to ensure the future delivery of affordable housing

This training seminar will take place in the afternoon of Wednesday 12th November.

A key debate for Housing Associations, Local Authorities and those genuinely concerned about London’s ability to deliver affordable housing in the market downturn.

The seminar will discuss the following topics:

1.   Can increased delivery realistically be achieved in the current economic climate without significant increase in reliance upon grant funding?

2.   What are the principal obstructions arising from the current planning system?

3.   How significant will the arrival of the Homes and Communities Agency be to delivery?

4.   Should Council’s be more open to non-RSL social housing options?

5.   Which Government initiatives hold most promise and should reforms continue?

Stephen Kelly, Director of Planning - WNDC

Stephen is the Director of Planning and Development for WNDC and will be responsible for ensuring that WNDC's planning powers deliver development of the highest quality and value across the area. A chartered town planner, Stephen joins the corporation having successfully transformed the development control service of a Local Planning Authority.He has a long history of delivering on major urban and rural development projects, including mixed use re-development, major infrastructure and development across the Wembley regeneration area. Out of hours, he can be found riding his motorcycle or dancing round the living room with his two young daughters.

 

Nick Lloyd Davies, Director of Planning - CgMs Consulting Ltd

Nick Lloyd-Davies has over 17 years’ experience in both public and private sectors. In the public sector he has worked principally in development control with local authorities in London and the Home Counties. In the private sector he has worked for a range of developers and RSLs, including KingsOak, Bellway Homes, Fairview and Metropolitan Housing Trust and Wandle. Nick has particular experience in the residential development sector, section 106 negotiations and community consultation.

 

Andrew Drury, Managing Director – HATC

Andrew is a qualified project manager and is a highly regarded and very experienced senior housing association practitioner, who has worked very successfully in the sector for over twenty years. He worked in housing association development, maintenance and housing management at a senior level before establishing his own consultancy, HATC Ltd, in 1994. He continues to provide senior interim management services.

Andrew has authored several national publications for the Housing Corporation, National Housing Federation, Dept of Communities & Local Government, Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy & the London Housing Federation dealing with affordable housing issues. He is also an active Board member of four housing associations, most recently with an LSVT RSL in Yorkshire, chairing the Audit & Performance Review Committee. Andrew was a Housing Corporation GOLD Expert Panel Member for the GOLD Award 2008, on the theme of Joined Up Development.

For the last 15 years, Andrew has delivered very successful and popular training courses for both the National Housing Federation and HATC.
